The Aviator Girl pic is nearly done

I have been working on the aviator girl and it's almost complete. It's close enough that I won't post a pic until it's ready which should be by Monday when it's due. Overall it's been a great assignment. One of the rules has been to not mix the black and white charcoal. This was tougher than it sounds on some of the areas where the dark go right up against the highlights. You'll see when I post the next pic....now if I can only shake this damn cold that I got after the weekend..........

Here's another in process pic. I just worked on shading more....still just trying to set in values all around the piece. I still have a long way to go. :) Posted by Picasa

Here's the beginning of the real drawing. So far I'm just laying in some lights and darks with the charcoal. Posted by Picasa

Here's the other image I was talking about that I liked. I still might do it anyway at some point. I got it off of a pretty cool stock photography website that is cheap.: www.istockphoto.com I think this image was only a buck or 2. Also another good source I found was www.deviantart.com everything there is free....not all quality stuff by any means but lots of pics and free to download with a quick right click of the mouse. Posted by Picasa

Here's the next assignment pic. We have to pick a picture that has a good single point light source and reproduce it in Black and White charcoal on Canson Mi-Tientes pastel / charcoal paper. I picked about 5 different pictures for the assignment and the teacher wanted to go with this one, mainly because of the light. I had another one of Buddhist monks that I liked a lot more....maybe another time. The image on the left is the origional from a magazine, the one on the right is the acetate tracing and the one in the upper middle is the the grid enlargment of the acetate tracing. I still need to refine the grid enlargement image but its pretty close to being ready to transfer to the Canson paper. Posted by Picasa

Weelllllll, Here's assignment #1 for the new semester. I just got done with it. I did definitely wait till the last minute to work on it. Its due tomorrow and I am ready to crash. Basically it was a study of perspective. The shadows are in perspective as well as the objects. We had to use Black and white charcoal but they couldnt touch...the paper had to be the medium value. This is charcoal on Canson Mi Tientes pastel paper. It was fun but I'm very ready to move on to the next thing. I'm also supposed to bring in 3 different images for review of which one will be chosen to replicate using black and white charcoal. i have some images but Im not really crazy about any of them. I'll see what else I can dig up tomorrow before class. Posted by Picasa
